In short: the guides and tools are free to use for your own purposes. Use them fairly, don’t try to break them or turn them against other people, and treat their results as information rather than guarantees. The rest of this page says the same thing in more detail.
1. About these terms
These terms apply to examineip.com and tools.examineip.com, operated by ExamineIP. By using either site, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the sites. How personal data is handled is explained separately in the privacy policy.
2. Information, not professional advice
The guides explain networking, privacy and security in general terms, for education and information. They are not legal, financial or professional security advice, and they can’t account for your particular setup. Before making decisions that matter — for your business, your security or your legal position — check with a qualified professional.
The content is written carefully and corrected when mistakes are found, but technology changes quickly and no guarantee is given that everything is complete, current or free of errors.
3. Using the tools
The tools are free and need no account. Their results depend on outside data sources and on the network conditions at the moment you run them, so:
- Results are indicative. IP geolocation is approximate, blacklist status changes, and a speed or latency measurement describes one moment on one route.
- Tools can be unavailable. They may be slow, limited, changed or taken offline without notice, including when an outside data source stops responding.
- Rate limits apply. Some tools limit how often they can be used, to keep them available for everyone.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the sites or tools for anything illegal, or to harm, harass or defraud anyone;
- use the tools to probe, scan or test systems or networks you are not authorised to test;
- try to get around rate limits, security measures or restrictions built into the tools;
- send automated or bulk requests to the tools, scrape them, or resell or republish their results as a service;
- interfere with the sites’ operation, including by overloading servers or introducing malicious code;
- misrepresent yourself as ExamineIP or suggest an endorsement that doesn’t exist.
Access may be blocked or limited if these terms are broken, or to protect the sites and their visitors.
5. Content and copyright
The articles, tools, code, graphics and other content on these sites belong to ExamineIP unless stated otherwise, and are protected by copyright.
You’re welcome to quote short excerpts with a credit and a link back to the original page. Copying whole articles, republishing substantial parts, or reusing the tools’ code or design needs written permission. The results a tool gives you are yours to use.
6. Links, affiliates and other websites
The sites link to other websites, and some of those links are affiliate links that earn ExamineIP a commission if you buy something, at no extra cost to you — see the affiliate disclosure. ExamineIP doesn’t control other websites and isn’t responsible for their content, products or practices. Anything you buy from them is between you and that company, under their terms.
7. Books and donations
ExamineIP books are sold on Amazon, and buying one is covered by Amazon’s terms. Donations made through PayPal are voluntary. They support the sites but don’t buy any product, service, priority support or other benefit, and they don’t create any obligation on either side.
8. No warranty
To the extent the law allows, the sites, content and tools are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including that they will be accurate, uninterrupted, secure or fit for a particular purpose.
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, ExamineIP is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits, business or opportunity, arising from your use of — or inability to use — the sites, content or tools, including decisions made on the basis of a tool’s result.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including liability for harm caused intentionally or through gross negligence.
10. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated, for example when a tool is added or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use the sites after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Romania, and disputes are subject to the courts of Romania. If you live in the European Union, this does not take away the protection given to you by the mandatory consumer protection laws of the country where you live.
